I listened to a very interesting podcast this morning on Mike’s Mic (check it out here), with guest Gary Vaynerchuk of winelibrary.com. If you guys don’t know Gary Vaynerchuk yet, you will soon. Gary is a web 2.0 evangelist and is extremely passionate about personal branding, by leveraging tools such as twitter and facebook fan pages. Gary has no direct experience in the real estate industry, however he speaks about how personal branding and brand equity can be applied to real estate agents and brokers.

When it comes to today’s real estate industry, the timing couldn’t be better to get out of our own way and realize this isn’t about technology at all. The technology is merely a tool that allows for an economy of scale in doing the same things that successful people have always done – a medium for a message. The same rules of learning, ingenuity and old fashioned hustle apply.

The key for real estate professionals, is to get involved within the community. That means reading blogs that apply to you and make comments, become an active member. Start your own blog, begin building a personal network by utilizing tools such as twitter. It won’t happen overnight, you have to work and hustle, every single day! The old methods are dead, if you don’t change to meet the times, some kid is going to swoop in and steal your business.  I am going to start a series on personal branding for real estate professionals, so stay tuned.

Marketing principles tend to work in just about any industry. I definitely agree that getting involved in the community and networking are some of the best ways to get yourself more exposure and business.

Chelle, thanks for the comment, I completely agree. I am just beginning to build my personal brand and would be interested in doing a series on personal branding for real estate professionals. I would record what I do day in and day out and talk about how it has been affecting my brand. Talking about what works and what doesn’t. P.S. very cool website, mind if I setup a link to it through my blog?
