I’ve had a LinkedIn account for some time now, however it was until recently that I realized it’s full potential. Here are 4 tips on using LinkedIn to promote your business.
1. Start a Group – I am extremely passionate about the use of social media in real estate, Twitter in particularly, so I started a group called “Twitter for Commercial Real Estate Professionals.” Although the group is in its infant stages, it has served as a forum for discussing ideas on how real estate professionals can utilize Twitter. It’s also been a great spot to network with like-mined individuals and show me expertise in a given sector of the field.
2. Ask and Answer Questions – My interest lies mainly on the use of social media in real estate. Using the advanced answers search I didn’t find any questions within my area of expertise, so I started my own question. I asked, “How do you Utilize Twitter for Real Estate?” The question has evolved into a discussion forum where I could display my knowledge of Twitter and lead people back to my blog where I did a post on Twitter for Commercial Real Estate Companies. I have made a lot of good contacts with people who discovered me through the Q&A section.
3. Join lots of Groups – You are permitted to join up to 50 groups, take full advantage of this. Join all the groups in which you have interest and get involved with the discussions. Much like Twitter, you need to get involved in the conversation and add value to the group. You’ll be surprised at how often this leads to making connections, which later turn into business deals.
4. Promote your Blog – I sure a lot of you out there already run your own blog. LinkedIn has a variety of great plug-ins aimed a blog promotion. I use the wordpress plug-in which displays my blog in a pretty snazzy format in my profile. It updates instantaneously as I update my blog. Check it out.
You can also promote your blog in the discussion forums of your groups. If you wrote an article about the use of Twitter for business, and the discussion is about Twitter for business, make sure you add a link to that post. The key is to bring as much positive attention to yourself throughout LinkedIn as possible. In the real estate sector I notice the same 3 or 4 people who have established themselves as experts. They would not waste their time if the ROI wasn’t worth it.
LinkedIn is a great source for leads and business, get involved and become part of the discussion. If you’re not already, please get connected with me through LinkedIn. How do you use LinkedIn to build your brand?
