Since starting my internship with the EPA Smart Growth Program I’ve become aware of a number of urbanism blogs.  I think the best way to stay abreast of news and cutting edge trends is to become involved with the blog scene of a particular niche. However, before you jump right in and start commenting on blogs, it’s important to learn about the author and their ideals; take some time to read through the archives and see what topics are creating conversation in the comment sections.

So here are some of the major sites worth following:

http://thecityfix.com/ – This is an online resource for sustainable transport.
http://greatergreaterwashington.org/ - This is a Washington D.C-centric blog aimed at helping improve the area. It covers smart growth, transit, public space, traffic, parking, architecture and education. I love their tagline, “The Washington, DC area is great, But it could be much greater.”
http://www.planetizen.com/ - This is a public-interest site for the urban planning, design, and development community. It covers a wide array of topics and has an international focus.
http://www.ryanavent.com/blog/ - Ryan Avent is the Online Economics Editor for The Economist, on his blog he discusses everything from the labor market to transportation issues.
http://theoverheadwire.blogspot.com/ - The Overhead Wire is a blog that talks about transit and the relationship between electric transit and development.
prescription drugs online without a prescription target=”_blank”>http://www.infrastructurist.com/ - The Infastructurist (love the name) is simply a blog that discusses all things infastructure.
http://blog.lib.umn.edu/levin031/transportationist/ - The Transportationist is a blog by David Levinson and the Nexus Research Group that discusses networks, economics, and urban systems.
http://tracktwentynine.blogspot.com/ - Track Twenty-Nine is a blog about transit, planning, and policy in the D.C. area.
http://blog.smartgrowthamerica.org/ - Smart Growth America is a blog that, strangley enough, covers all things smart growth.
http://www.humantransit.org/ - Human Transit is the professional blog of Jarrett Walker, an international public transit consultant. He has led numerous major planning projects in North America, Australia, and New Zealand and is currently working in Australia.
http://www.carfreeinbigd.com/ - Car Free in Big D or Walkable Dallas-Fort Worth is a blog that covers more than the title implies. It covers happy hours, his travels, random ramblings and the ubiquitous transit discussion.
http://www.tnr.com/blogs/The-Avenue - The Avenue “Rethinking Metrpolitan America” is a collaborative effort with the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program that covers suprisingly, metrepolitan policy.
http://www.streetsblog.net/ - Streets Blog Network is basically an aggregator which pulls articles from many of the top sites. It’s a great way to discover pharm review online new sites.

Are there any other sites out there I should be looking at?
