I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. Today is a big day, it’s the first day of my final full-time semester as a student at NYU Schack. It’s been an incredible experience in which I’ve met many interesting and motivated students, attended some great events and  learned a lot about one of the most diverse and rewarding professions.

This final semester will mark as a test for everything I’ve earned up to this point. My challenging schedule will prepare me to enter the field and immediately be an asset to any company as well as for my future entrepreneurial endeavors.

I’ll be taking 3 courses, continuing my role as a student research technical assistant for the NYU Center for the Sustainable Built Environment and of course providing content to the ASotREG community 3 days a week. Here’s my schedule:

Planning and Design online drugs without prescription Issues in Development
This course addresses planning at the regional, community, neighborhood and site as practiced by both the public and private sectors. It examines the public master planning process as well as the project site planning and trends in planning and regulation such as smart growth and sustainability. In the design area, the course addresses building design and design theory for various product types as well as urban design.

I’ll be taking this course with Raquel Ramati who’s new to the NYU program. She runs her own Urban Planning & Design firm and has authored books such as How to Save Your Own Street. I’m extremely excited for this course and looking forward to learning from Professor Ramati as a professional and entrepreneur.

Green Building and Sustainable Development
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to sustainable development and green building methods in the context of real estate investment, development, and construction management, covering the entire sustainable development process from project evaluation and site planning through the design, construction, commissioning, and occupancy phases. Topics include: economic growth and equality, environmental justice, smart growth and planning, renewable energy sources and techniques, green building and zoning codes, economic and financial considerations, financing sources and incentive programs, and green building design and construction methods and materials. Specific attention will be given to the US Green Building Council LEED rating systems and the integration and optimization of site and building design, energy and water efficiency, resource-efficient construction, lighting and mechanical design, and building ecology.

This course is taught by Professor Kontokosta, the head of NYU’s SBE and one of the most dedicated professors at NYU Schack.

Development Capstone
The final course I’m taking is the development capstone with Dean Stuckey.  The course  requires the student to take a sustainable real estate development project from concept to completion and operation. Students will be expected to identify and develop a real estate project proposal (the “Project Proposal”), analyzing its feasibility, environmental (“green”) features, form, market, zoning, and financial, leasing, and green construction perspectives. While students will be responsible for preparing their own individual Project Proposals, they will also be expected to review the proposals of their peers The capstone project should include both public and private roles, stakeholder involvement, mediacoverage and the long term sustainability of the project. This course will provide a comprehensive and thorough application the completion of the course should demonstrate the student’s comprehension of all prior courses undertaken in NYU Schack and ability to successfully compete in the real estate industry.

The 3 courses I’m taking this semester will be strongly interconnected and will prepare me for a career in sustainable development. The summer has been great, but I’m eager to get back into a routine and complete my studies as a student at NYU Schack.
